Tell Rep. Benninghoff: Stop tampering with the election & move on.

Today, I have a piece in the Centre Daily Times taking Rep. Benninghoff to task. Will you join Jesse Barlow and me to rain scorn on Benninghoff for his boot-licking to Trump's worst autocratic actions? Call him. Write to him. Write letters. Don't quit. Our democracy needs you!

As you know, Bennninghoff and 63 other legislators have asked Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senators and Representatives to “object, and vote to sustain such objection, to the Electoral College votes received from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania” on Jan. 6, 2021. Thankfully, Sen. Toomey has already said he will not object.

This seditious request assaults the basis of our sovereign government — your vote. It merely serves Trump’s ego and amplifies his dishonest rhetoric to undermine Pennsylvanians’ trust in one another and in democracy. Further, Benninghoff and company enable future politicians of any party to do the same. Read the whole op-ed here.

Since the Nov. 3 election, Kerry Benninghoff has attacked the sovereignty of the election. We need you to call him, write to him and make your voice heard. The results are in and Joseph R. Biden is the President-Elect.

Benninghoff is one of 64 so-called legislators who have tried to get the Presidential election results overturned, an act that would throw out his own victory. He filed a "friend of the court" brief on a cartoon case with Rudy Guiliani the judge, Trump-appointee Matthew Brann called an incoherent “Frankenstein’s Monster” lacking “compelling legal arguments (or) factual proof of rampant corruption.” Brann dismissed it with prejudice.

We could call this a waste of time and money. The truth though? These are flagrant attempts to steal an election to defend the wounded ego of a man who can’t act like an adult and walk away like every other president in history.

On Nov. 4, I conceded to and congratulated Rep. Benninghoff for his victory. We texted about sportsmanship. During the election, I was hard on him. But I respected him as my opponent. I am disappointed that he has participated in a damaging mission he had to know would fail. And all of it for Trump, a man who shows no ability to be honorable or sportsmanlike.

As constituents, we deserve fair and truthful representation, and a commitment to upholding the democratic process. Unfortunately, it is up to us to keep the pressure on Representative Benninghoff to concede the presidential election to its rightful victor, Joe Biden, to stop tampering with our votes, and to work with both parties in the state to ensure progress, relief, and healing. Here are some action steps you can take to reach Benninghoff:

  • Submit a letter to his office with a template letter that can be personalized, and the submission links listed below.
